Revolutionizing Care: Join the NHS Wales Consultation on Severe Intestinal Failure Services

  • 2 min read

Severe intestinal failure (SIF) is a complex and life-altering condition that demands specialised care and coordinated support. Recognising this, the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee (JCC) has launched a public consultation to gather input on new policies and service specifications aimed at improving care for adults living with this condition. This consultation offers a unique opportunity for clinicians, stakeholders, and the wider community to shape the future of SIF services in Wales.

What the Consultation Covers

The consultation focuses on two key documents:

  • SS210 – Severe Intestinal Failure (adults): Service Specification

This document outlines the standards and requirements for delivering SIF services, including clinical pathways, staffing, and patient support.

  • CP210 – Severe Intestinal Failure (adults): Commissioning Policy

This policy guides how services should be commissioned, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet patient needs.

Why Your Feedback Matters

The consultation invites feedback from a broad range of contributors:

  • Clinicians who provide direct care to patients with SIF

  • Healthcare managers and commissioners responsible for service delivery

  • Patients, carers, and advocacy groups with lived experience

  • Other stakeholders interested in improving healthcare services

Your insights can help identify practical challenges, highlight gaps, and suggest improvements that make the policy more effective and patient-centred.

How to Participate in the Consultation

Providing feedback is straightforward. The NHS Wales JCC has made comment proformas available for both the service specification and commissioning policy. These forms help structure your responses and ensure all relevant points are covered.

To submit your feedback:

  • Complete the relevant proforma

  • Email your response to: nwjccconsultation@wales.nhs.uk

  • Submit before the deadline: 17:00 on Wednesday 18 February 2026

Sharing this consultation with colleagues and networks is encouraged to broaden participation and gather diverse perspectives.
